Mainmark always believes in developing the potential it has within the business and has promoted from within where possible, recognising growing talent and previous performance.
As an illustration of this, we wanted to take the opportunity to introduce David Hedley, as he moves into his new role of Technical Sales Engineer. With over 10 years of relevant industry experience, David joined us two years ago and specialises in our infrastructure and B2B projects.
We took the opportunity to sit down with David to talk about his new role and plans for the future at Mainmark.
Tell us a bit more about your role at Mainmark?
I work to make sure we deliver solutions that are specifically tailored to our clients’ unique projects. No single method can provide the solution to every ground engineering problem, so for any project I start with a conversation and then an initial site visit, ensuring I fully understand the issue at hand. Typically, projects I work on now vary from residential, to commercial and infrastructure.
The best part about my job has always been leading clients through the process from start to finish, helping to provide a solution to their problem, with minimum disruption to their life or business. I really enjoy this about my role because I can help clients with outcomes that are safe, accurate and economically delivered.
What does a typical day look like for you?
I’m in the business of problem-solving so I spend most my time communicating with clients, whether that’s by phone, on site or virtually via video conferencing to make sure they’re looked after from the beginning of the process to the end. We pride ourselves on service so it’s rewarding establishing relationships that are based on trust, open communication and of course, resolutions.
As you have recently changed roles, what do you hope to achieve in the next few years?
Promoting Mainmark’s offering in the infrastructure sector is a top priority. Much of our work in the UK has, up to now, focused on residential and commercial projects, concentrating on built structures, but having established ourselves in those sectors, we’re keen to help more tier one contractors and local authorities with their infrastructure projects. As a global business we have over 20 years of experience in this field and we’re keen to bring this expertise to the UK market with time-efficient, cost-effective and non-invasive solutions. A full description of our infrastructure services can be found here on our website: https://mainmark.co.uk/asset-owners/sectors/infrastructure/
What are the top three issues facing UK Infrastructure at the moment?
Time-consuming and expensive traditional methods of repairs are huge challenges. Recent reports suggest a backlog of repair works worth £11 billion across the UK. The Government’s budget for tackling road repairs sits at £2.5million,1 so we must address the gulf between the work that needs to be done and the means to achieving it.
On top of that, we need to make the UK’s road and infrastructure networks safer, more stable and more sustainable. When roads and other infrastructure needs repair, the risk of accidents, and other safety issues occurring, tend to increase exponentially. In a worst-case scenario, ground instability, potholes and even sink holes can lead to serious damage or injury.
What can Mainmark do to change this?
Our processes are faster than traditional methods. A rapid pace means reduced work programmes and less disruption, in turn, enabling cost savings. Our solutions also require minimal plant and equipment which results in fewer health and safety risks on site. As well as generally being safer, our methods are environmentally inert. Given the urgency of climate change, the ability to help fix the UK’s infrastructure in a manner that has less impact on the environment isn’t just important, it’s essential.
What do you like to do in your spare time?
I’m very lucky. Alongside a job I love, my wife and two dogs are my focal point. So, outside of building client relationships at Mainmark, I spend time with them and my extended family and friends. I also like to think of myself as a keen BBQ’er and a bit of a movie buff.
